Weird "woo" sound from engine

So in the last few months, my wife's 2000 LPT wagon makes a weird "woo" sound at around 2400rpm when accelerating (engine under load). It sounds similar to blowing across the top of a beer bottle to make it hum. It only does it at that engine speed, and it doesn't do it when decelerating past 2400rpm. Doesn't affect drivability at all.

The only thing I can think of is that a few months back I took the plastic air intake snorkel across the top/back of the engine (that drops into the top of the throttle body near the firewall) off in order to give myself better access to the coolant bypass valve. I made sure to get it back on squarely and tighten that huge band clamp on well.

Can anybody think of what might be making that noise? It's hard to troubleshoot under the hood as it doesn't make the noise unless the engine is under load (i.e. driving).
