I have always replaced the top idler pulley at 60K after dicsovering my factory pulley had a nasty bearing sound at 105K miles. I have gotten ~120k from both the tensioner pulley and center idler pulley twice (238k+ miles on my 9-5) and I replace the idler itself just this past fall with over 230,000 miles on it!
I recommend staying with the long belt if you have have an automatic, and avoid Continental belts if you can. A number of us (including me) have had Continental brand belts fail prematurely, I now stick with Goodyear Gator Backs.
