Flashing CEL, fuel pump relay buzz and TB click

1999 9-5 2.3L manual trans, 140K. Replaced engine (sludging, spun bearings) with 99K from wreck, same year. At initial startup attempt when ignition was clicked on, the CEL would flash, fuel pump relay buzz and butterfly in TB click, all in unison. 40psi fuel pressure. Replaced old plugs ("V" burned into base electrode), no clicking and fired right up. Drove great for 2 days, started to buck, into limp home mode and now exact problem returns. Tried: (2) different CPS's, both checked for proper resistance, (2) DI's, cleaned TB, checked all connections carefully. Strange thing is that I can disconnect all wires to TB, DI and CPS and still the fuel pump relay cycles with the flashing CEL. This makes me think it must have to do with the fuel pump or regulator? Help appreciated, probably tow to indy tomorrow. BTW, OBDII will not connect during flashing CEL and when it does connect, it reports no stored DTC's.
