After you pull the liner off, look for the protective sleeve that carries the wire bundle from the body to the lid. Where it enters the lid you can just pull it back and from there pull the wire bundle either way to see where the cuts are. In most cases I wrapped the lightly damaged ones with electrician's tape. In the more severe cases I cut and then spliced.
In either case try to wrap the bundle as a whole with something like Gorilla tape, or duct tape.
