of course it could be something not related to the battery. On my wife's 2004 I smelled a coolant odor in the cabin and asked the dealer to check it out - I think it was at the 15k service . The verdict - "no coolant leaks - we did a pressure test". Well I think about a month or two later the freakin coolant by pass valve failed.
Some of these dealers are such bs artists or so completely inept that I hated to even take the car in for the Saab paid maintenance. But the valve was one of multiple component failures that required 11 trips to the dealer - all covered under warranty.
Keep an eye on the by pass valve - they sometimes give it up early on.
