I depends on the 9-5 year I guess. If you have a 9-5 Aero that came with 225/45-17 tires, 205/55-16 is the correct 16 inch size. There is about .4% difference in diameter which is insignificant. They should however be XL load rated as the 9-5 is rather heavy on the nose end. If you started with 215/55-16 tires, then there is 1.75% difference, the 205s being smaller than stock. This means your speedometer will read high and your odometer will rack up mileage faster than reality. It is up to you if you want to do this but if the load rating is adequate (or you don't care), it won't hurt anything. You can eliminated this difference by having your tech with a Tech II device set the speedometer for 225/45-17 tires (there is a setting for this).

The current 9-5s have 235/45-17s on the Aero/Sport Package and I know not what on the other models, this will throw your speedometer and odometer off even further. I don't know if you can reset these vehicles for a tires size that will eliminate the difference. As to whether the tires will work: yes, just fine, I'm using 205/55-17 Nokian WR G2 tires, XL Load rating on my 2000 9-5 Aero right now for winter tires with out any problems.
