Recently had car in for timing belt at an indy. New car for me (2001 SE). While I don't know much beyond the warranty work on the car, the mechanic seems to think that the engine had been replaced with an earlier engine. I had purchased a Gate Timing Comp kit for 2001 and the tensioner plate was too big - indy thought the engine might be an earlier engine - so I went and bought the component kit for the 99 year - tensioner plate was still too big (though smaller than 01 kit) - so he just used the existing plate and put the tensioner and pulley on the old plate.

I looked high and low for the engine serial number and can't seem to find it without taking off parts. I am curious if the engine had been replaced.

I did manage to locate a sticker/bar code on the engine block which is just behind the oil dipstick tube. Had to use a little mirror to be able to see it.

My question: Is the date in European format (DD/M/YYYY) or is it MM/DD/YYYY?

The trim badge on the car says it was born 10/2000 (2001 model). That would correspond with this sticker if the month was in the middle. Any clues what this sticker might be? Any clues as to how to get to the engine code?
