From what I've read, they're pulling the plug on the current model this spring. There's talk afoot that the Swedish Government is willing to invest in Saab so long as the money stays in Sweden. There's talk that Saab will be separated from GM by an accounting wall, with Saab invoicing GM for services rendered (read turbocharging, safety technology), and GM likewise invoicing Saab (read parts, "back-room" administration support). One possible result of all this is the next 9-5 gets built in Trollhattan.
Also from what I've read, the 9-5 design is finished and ready to be built. The 9-5 was originally scheduled to launch before the new Vectra (now called "Insignia"), but they switched that schedule when sales of the olde Vectra started to fall off the cliff. Since the new 9-5 is based on "Epsilon II", and the current 9-3 is based on "Epsilon", it should be even easier to build the new 9-5 in Trollhattan than the current 9-5. All they need is stamping dies, floor pans, bolt-in parts, and a welding jig. Same as Russelheim.
I'd look for a late 2009 or early 2010 launch, if any.
