The instructions and pictures in the WIS are not accurate, at least for my 2000. The pictures in the WIS show the T-stat housing to have one slotted hole, and the instructions refer to this by saying one bolt only needs to be loosened not removed.
Wrong! My t-stat housing required full removal of all three bolts as none of the holes were slotted. Combining this with a blind location under the inlet manifold makes re-inserting the bolts very difficult.
This job may even be worse than replacing the center idler pulley on the serpentine belt. Both have limited access and require working blind, but the T-stat also requires another joint in your wrist to replace it easily.
