just wanted to post this to help others in the future.

1999 9-5SE 2.3lpt 4cly with 125k miles. recently had nasty oil leak from head gasket. indie wanted to do a gasket job! I didnt like that idea. after using this site and finding bulletins, etc determined I wanted to try the PVC #6 update and headbolt replace/retorque. my Indie didnt know how to even correctly price the retorque (nor the PVC update) and acted confused so I quickly RAN AWAY FAST. he was more $ than the local dealer anyway. but the local dealer is far too busy with wiper blade replacements and $900 60k services on rich retirees' cars in Palm Beach to return my calls ever. so, finally gave then next distance dealer a try (Vero Beach Saab). I had also seen posts from Ian on his satisfaction with them. GREAT service and story:

(1) they checked and measured the bolts. determined to reuse, not replace. but they were way off on torque. after the retorque, I havent had a sign of any drip in weeks now!
(2) I also had them do the PVC#6 update with all the additional hoses and valve. even though we ordered them first, they determined one of them was fine after inspection and did not replace. nice. saved me $50.
(3) they had a loaner new 9-3 for me even though I am not in warr period. BTW, I like my '99 9-5 better even if the suspension is a little "aged".
(4) they spent plenty of time with me on the phone before and during. this was great. I'm a detailed engr guy. most shops are thinking: I am losing money talking with this guy. just bring the car in and we'll check it out and if you dont like it, it's still $150 to get your car back.
(5) they called few days later to check on the service.

WOW!..there is a HUGE difference in dealer service. and turns out they really are about the same distance from my house (just wrong way for work) but with the 7:30am drop off, no crowds, and loaner car, I got to work same time as if from the closer dealer via shuttle van.

I found a new shop for my Saab and thus feel better about keeping it longer! Vero Beach Saab
