&*$%£$* caliper springs again

So I posted a couple of days ago about the calliper springs on my 02 V6 Arc Wagon getting loose and rattling. So I put them back on after which my brake pedal had a very long travel and is mushy (still stops the car though). So I ordered new springs and got them today. I've just fitted them and no luck, it's just the same. It's very mush and a long travel on the pedal. I can pump up the brakes though. So I guess I should bleed them. However, the fit of the new calliper springs doesn't look like the best to me (see pic below). Any opinions as to whether these are fitted correctly? Any other tips?
