You may be able to see if the rubber on the left side mount has separated from the steel of the mount after removing the battery and battery tray. But on a 10 year old car, where the particular model is known to experience engine mount faiures, it is probably a certainty the mounts are bad.
My rear mount has probably failed also, but it is more difficult to replace so I am content knowing 3 of the 4 are in good condition.
