I have done front struts on my previous 9-5 and my 9000's prior to that. It is not a hard DIY project.

Key to ease with this project is the right tools.
- Spring compressor
- Impact wrench
- Breaker bar and sockets, especially for the 2 lower bolts

Having an impact wrench is a real time saving advantage in removing the big nut at the top of the strut. I usually crack this nut loose before taking the strut out of the car. The spring compressor is a must have.

To remove the strut, remove 3 bolts at the strut tower and 2 at the bottom of the strut. I jack up both sides and place jack stands under the sub-frame. Then I use a bottle jack to support the A-frame on the side I'm doing first; this prevents the strut from dropping and damaging the threads on the strut tower bolts as you remove them. After you've taken out the 3 strut tower bolts the bottle jack can be removed. On reassembly, use the bottle jack to raise everything to ease reinsertion of the 3 strut tower bolts.

If the strut bearing at the top is loaded with brown goo, replace it. If the link joints connected between the strut and te anti-sway bar are loose, replace them....not uncommon after 130K miles; this can be done as a follow-up a a later date if it's not convenient to drop everything and run out.

Use the same brand and model on the struts as you used on the rear shocks.

Plan on 2-4 hours.

Hope that these few thoughts help. And yes, others may have some variation on the techniques I shared.
