I had a similar sound fixed on my 2001 Aero Wagon (5 speed manual). I first noticed a quiet sound that I would call a "tick tick tick" noise at slow speeds and part throttle (right at that point where the car is neither slowing nor accelerating). It disappeared into the background noise above 35 mph. I never noticed any relationship to turning, or road speed, or engine load. It was so quiet my wife could never hear it.

It gradually worsened until by 6000 miles I started noticing a loud "CLICK!" sometimes when I exited the car. I discovered that if I were to vigorously and rhythmically push up and down on the left front fender, to get the front end bouncing, the noise could easily be repeated. "CLICK CLICK CLICK!" It was pretty entertaining to onlookers, to see me doing this to my shiny new black beauty in the grocery store parking lot, and see me poking my head under the car and looking baffled.

I went to the the dealer, and the service writer and tech were both intrigued - this was a new one for them. They certainly could not deny something was amiss when I made the car talk to them. The tech spent about two hours under and over the car, and finally traced the problem to the transmission mount. He removed it, inspected it, cleaned it, and reinstalled it. The noise did not go away or change.

They ordered a new mount assembly, and I brought the car in to have it replaced. The same tech removed the old mount and opened the box to remove the new one. Unfortunately, the new mount was manufactured with an obvious defect, and was unusable. So the tech reinstalled my mount once again and they ordered another replacement.

But now the noise was gone! I called the service guy, and he said they needed to replace it to be sure it stayed gone. They installed the new mount and eveything has been dandy ever since.

It is not hard to access the mount. The battery and tray have to come out, the tranny needs suport, and then the mount simply unbolts. It is less than an hour to remove and reinstall. I suggest you have the dealer look at yours.

Good luck, and please post a message if this works out, or if it doesn't.
