Far as I'm aware, you can't move the shafts between keys.
On the "not-all-in-one", or "transponder" key, the transponder is in the part of the key that you hook onto your key ring. It does come out, and it could be replaced, though I'm told that it's actually cheaper to just upgrade to the newer key.
On the "all-in-one", or "remote" key, the transponder is part of the remote electronics package.
The Transponder is the part that the theft alarm is looking for to know you have inserted a "good" key. The transponder part does not require batteries, it is powered by the antenna that surrounds the key slot.
So, all of your other keys are working properly? No "key not recognized" issues? Could there be anything else on that key ring that might interfere? (try the key alone, off the ring)
If it's just the one transponder key, you may still be able to get the transponders from Saab (or just track a whole key down on eBay ) and swap it into the key. EPC tells me they DO come apart!
You will, of course, then need to have all the keys programmed to the car again...
OTOH, if all keys are giving you problems, then there might be something else that needs looking at...
