It's possible that you could do the work yourself (after all, mechanics are people, too...), but without knowing WHAT you need to do, all you'd end up doing is throwing money into a black hole.
An Indy should be able to handle it. Whether they will, is up to them.
THey'll need a Tech 2 to read the code. I am fairly sure that a generic OBD II reader is insufficient to read the SRS system codes.
I've swapped steering wheels on airbag cars, and even changed the "clockspring" (what connects the turning bits with the stationary bits), and I'm still here to tell the tale. A modicum of common sense and careful planning will keep you out of trouble.
