Hi, Three weeks ago it was my turn with the airconditing unit fan failure, The typical symtom is: a slower fan speed at the full speed setting, by the second to third day it was totally dead. So my options was:

1: To by a new motor $450.00(Aus)from a GM dealer and fit it my self.

2: Goto a European second-hand scrap yard dealer.

3: Last option, goto an Scania/Iveco truck service centre.

I choose the last option as my A/C fan needed only two new carbon brushes the rotor surface was only scored by about 2mm and was not a concern. I went in the Iveco service centre and asked for some carbon brushes they immediately brought out a box full of different size truck starter motor brushes and I had my trusty Vernier Callipers and the SAAB A/C fan motor with me, and all I had to do is find a pair slightly over sized, in total I paid only $25 (Australian dollars) for a pack of four brushes.

It only took about 20mins to fashion-up the two new brushes with a Jnr hack-saw and a file and another half an hour to put the motor and the windscreen wiper Ass'y + plastic plate/guides in place. The original brush size I brought from the Scania/Iveco centre was about 25mm x 8mm x 20mm which was just perfect !!!

To date I love my A/C fan when driving around the Eastern beaches under the hot Australian sun. I wonder if the Scania truck badge fits a SAAB boot lid and bonet covers as well!!

All the best !!!!
