My mother recently bought a 2001 Saab 9-5 V6 Wagon 88k, on her way home from NJ to Maine she made it 300 miles and the car started to run rough so she pulled over and the car stalled and died in MASS she then got it towed, and they took a picture of the cracked piston ( cylinder 1) at the service center. So my question is should the Check Engine Light come on as it was dying and running rough. Seems like a bad piston would throw a CEL or something not just stutter and die.
Also can you replace just the one piston or...
Service shop and dealer that sold her the car and wont do anything about it say need new engine.
Mostly looking for cost effective and dependable options at this moment.
found some threads on cracked pistons on BB but is mostly for the four cylinders
thanks in advance
