Last weekend I got the rear fog failure message so I went to the auto parts store and purchased bulbs. In addition to rear fog and stop bulbs I also bought a pair of 1157NA to replace the peeling old turn signal bulbs currently seated in my front blinkers. Also, I bought a pair of parking W5W Philips bulbs to replace one burnt out parking bulb. I have Xenons.
Swapped bulbs out, same problem...washed hands, came inside the house, did research and went outside to inspect the trunk wire loom...what a $!#(#* mess. All wires stripped and two severed...
I closed everything, shut the car down and went inside. The next morning when I drove off my blinker/flasher was running twice the speed. The fast click is making me crazy!!!
My questions is two...no..threefold:
1- The new 1157NA bulbs seem very dim to me. I never paid attention to the old ones, I know the one I took out was 1157A. They are identical but I read something about burn position, though I'm not sure I understand what it is. Anyhow, was not able to locate 1157A anywhere and specs are identical. The bulbs look odd, orange bulb through clear plastic with only the side being projected through orange plastic... what's wrong here?
2- Can the burnt out city W5W be causing the fast flashing?
3- The flasher/blinker was fine before I started messing with the wire loom. I could turn the lights on, press rear fog and replicate the error message still the blinkers were fine. Maybe me removing the rubber boot and shaking the wires caused a bad ground? Maybe a key wire severed itself as a result of me moving the boot?
....and finally: I noticed that my parking lights (the corner lights, not the city bulb)) are never on.....I have euro mode, no DRL and relay wired for both xenon and halogen highbeams to come on at the same time....again, I can't remember.... are these supposed to be on?
I will go the liquid electric tape route with the wires, maybe heat shrink....Ideally i'd like to splice and lenghten, maybe that's possible..I'll get a closer look.
Thanks for your time guys!
