The sway bar is a key component of your front suspension. If it is broken, it could be dangerous to not replace it. I haven't heard of a broken one before but it is possible.
Failed Sway Bar links are very common and not very expensive (~$50 each?). Many owners have replaced these themselves, I tried and failed due to no impact wrench.
But $2K for motor mounts? I replaced 3 of the 4 myself for around $250 in parts, maybe less. The fourth one is said to be a bugger to replace and would have increased my total parts cost to ~$400, but $1600 (~15+ hours) in labor sounds way too high. Did they do other significant work at the same time?
A leaky valve cover can be fixed with a $20 gasket set and one hour of time.
Timing belts on the V6 engine have a 60K mile life expectancy and are located internal to the engine. A recommendation to replace this part following a quick inspection would be based on your car's mileage only - not anything they could see during the inspection. The timing belt tensioner should ALWAYS be replaced at the same time as the belt.
BTW - GM gets no money from Dealer repairs, nada, zilch; but customers sure blame GM for shady dealer repairs.
