come apart by sliding the red part out the side of the connector (a small flat screwdriver under the middle part of the red does the trick to loosen it), then you kind of work the red bit out the side, and the connector body out the length of the connector together.
They're made to lock together, and keep moisture out. The red part is the lock.
Same connectors on the DICs, too, and most other places around the car.
