Regarding hoses....an opinion of one........ Rubber dries out. Hoses fail more so because of age versus mileage. If your Saab is more than 5 years old check hoses carefully for mushiness and cracks. Heat, coolant and especially oil will accelerate rubber deterioration. As an example, the upper radiator hose will generally fail before the lower....heat is the culprit. The hose on the output side of the turbo compressor will soften due to oil residue. Vacuum hoses tend to crack and break with age due to engine compartment heat. Dry rot in tires after 6-8 years is not unusual, and a serious safety issue.
If your Saab has passed the 5 year milestone, periodic inspection (visual and some gentle squeezing) will help you stay on top of this stuff. Tires more than 6 years old should be replaced.
