I have replaced front struts on 3 occasions, once on my 2007 9-5 (switched to FSD's), and twice on my former 2000 9-5 (during the 280K miles I had it). Additionally, I have down several strut replacements on 9000's I owned over a 14 year period (from 1986 to 1999 when I bought my first 9-5)
I have never replaced the strut mounts. There is nothing to wear out on this part; the bearing is a separate component.
Saab uses an unthreaded nut (3) on this part. The hardened bolt cuts the thread at installation. When the bolt is removed and reinstalled (eg. strut replacement) care should be taken to not strip the cut thread; this would necessitate replacement.
And yes, others who post here may have a different perspective on this question.
