with 18" rims it will feel like the tires are full of cement. Just because they are bigger doesn't mean the car will handle better.
IMHO, there is no real value in large diameter wheels with ultra-low profile tires for street use. Sure the steering will be slightly crisper but unless the roads are all super smooth where you live the ride won't be very nice. And a set of railroad tracks can take out your rims in one pass.
If you want handling, as opposed to bling, get some stickier tires in a stock size on 16 or 17 inch wheels. Maybe add an inch in rim width. Put on some aftermarket sway bars. The ones from SAS, for example, will transform your car's handling with no negative effects on ride. If you want still more, get some shorter springs.
The ricer boyz in their Civics and Yotas with 18-20 inch wheels and rubber band tires do it all for looks. Handling is more than the size of the wheel and the footprint of the tire.
