CLUTCH PROBLEM Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
On Sunday afternoon my wife and I were driving to my daughter's house for dinner. On PCH I was accelerating from a light and shifting from 2nd to 3rd and the clutch went to the floor and stayed there. I was stuck in 3rd gear with no way to release the clutch.
I was in a spot where I could not pull over so I went down the road a mile and pulled over where I had more room. I have had slave and master cylinders go on Saabs before, but never like right to the floor right now.
I could see brake fluid on top of the transmission, so I guessed a hose ruptured. I had it towed to Walter Wong at Right Solution. That is what happened........the flexible hose section of the line blew.
My advice....inspect the hose whenever you are going over the engine. It is down there under the battery. If it blows, it will leave you really stranded.
The new part is a combination of solid steel line and rubber flex hose like a brake hose. Cost is $98 at Eeuroparts. You could also have a custom hose shop make you a new one by replacing the flexible center part. Could even do it in aircraft braided steel!
