Thanx for the West Marine polylethylene epoxy suggestion. I was pressed to try and get this passed before my tag registration expired, so I went ahead and tried JB Quick Weld and then covered over with JB WaterWeld epoxy putty, as it is hard to get finger access to the entire detector pedestal, even when droppping the tank a little. Left everything overnight and got in line at the inspection station the next morning, only to see the CEL light up in the dash!!!!! Rather than go home to erase the code with my OBD II reader device (and likely need another 50 miles of driving data sampling), I went ahead with the emissions test ....and failed. Luckily, the mechanic said I could get an extension on my tag registration (he was right..!), so now I get a 2 month reprieve to keep searching for the leak.
I need to dig into the WIS and see if there is a recommended procedure for tracking down the cause once and for all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something like the actual plastic fuel lines and their plastic connectors into the tank. What a crappy design, in my opinion!!! No wonder there is a factory notice for installation of the metal hold down clip. I do have a combustible gas detector device which is very sensetive to gasoline, so maybe I get this to pinpoint the exact leak location.
Stay Tuned...
