I removed my pinstripe yesterday! Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Sat, 9 May 2009 06:21:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My '04 Aero came with a beautiful red and black, back to front double pinstripe that drove me bonkers. And to rub salt in the wound it was painted on. I was getting ready to pay a body shop to remove it because a lot of people said it would need to be wet-sanded off. Others recommended glass stove-top cleaner, which I did not feel comfortable touching to my car. Isn't that stuff kind of abrasive? Anyway I found a few online things that said Denatured Alcohol would probably do the trick. Sure enough... I finally smartened up and made strips of paper towel and stuck them onto the stripes saturated with the alcohol to soften the paint. After letting them sit for a while, re-soaking them with a spray bottle a few times the stripes came off like erasing a dry erase board. It did leave a little bit of a ghost behind, but I'm thinking it will disappear with a clay bar and wax? Meh. Just thought I'd share.
