Starting to get over the loss of my 9000, and not finding a lot of good ones around, have been searching for new/used Saab. Spent Sat driving 9-5, 9-3, 9-3Sportcombi, 9-5Sportcombi, 9-3 Convertable, etc. We decided the 9-5 Sportcombi was the best ride. They had some great deals on new 2008 Saabs, but no 9-5 wagons. The most cost effective route to me seems to be a used 9-5. I've tried searching for posts on new 9-5s, but my searches must be bad, as I'm not finding much.
I've heard that the sludging problem has pretty much been solved as of 2004 or 2005, right? Also that some changes came about in 2006. Were those changes for the better? I am almost convinced to give up my manual shift, but am interested in other's experience with them.
CPO seems like a safe way to go on a purchase. Has past experience been good, and what is going to happen when Saab is sold?
I'm a bit befuddled by the model names. We drove a 2009 9-5 Griffin Sportcombi. There does not seem to be an Aero any longer. Earlier models were broken up into Linear, Arc, and Aero if I recall right. Are current models- 2006 up- wagons and Sportcombis? Just trying to know what I'm shopping for.
How do the paint and bodies appear to be holding up to rust and other degradation? Any other tips for what to watch for in buying a newer 9-5?
It was fun driving all the Saabs. While we weren't driving them hard, it was easy to see they are still a nice driving value. Thanks in advance for your input!
