Auto-Leveling Sensor Issue for Xenon (longish)

I searched the threads and I have come to the conclusion that I may have dirty auto-leveling sensors for the headlights. However, I have a couple of questions.
Starting a few weeks ago I noticed that when my headlights are on they seem to do a little dance like they can't figure out where they need to level out at. I can hear the little motor in each headlight going on and off and see small adjustments being made and if the car sits idling or is headed up or down a slight incline for a long period then the lights point down and the Auto-Leveling warning light goes on. When driving, most of the time there seems to be no issue, but on a 2 hour trip this morning, the warning light came on and off a dozen times or so.
So, after researching the board it seems that the sensors are either bad or dirty. I did check the connections for both the front and rear sensors and the connections seemed solid with no play.
1. If the sensors are dirty what is the best way to clean them and what should be used to do so? I read using WD-40?
2. If they are bad, how much do they cost? I can't find anything on line and may be limited to the dealer if they are bad (which I don't think they are).
TIA!
