I find my 3 Saabs have preferred the Euro tires - Pirelli, Continental or Michelin (my favorite but a bit pricey). The tire is part of the suspension after all - and the overall ride, handling and certainly longevity (in my experience) seems better with Euro tires mounted. The only Japanese tires I might consider due to price are the Yokohama Avid or Bridgestone G009 Grid - both had fairly good test results.
I am looking for a set now for my 2004 Arc and it will likely be either the Michelin Primacy MXV4 (Grand Touring A/S) or Exalto (High Performance A/S). The Primacy's have been awesome tires for me - I drive a lot of miles and the overall balance, quiet ride and longevity are more important to me than slightly higher cloverleaf preformance, fun as that may be : )
