Three places to look for a leak. Posted by B Millar [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: My A/C issue/dilema.....Feel free to offer advice.., bobc ![]() ![]() |
Like I mentioned, the shraeder valve on the low pressure fill port. This should be up near your power steering reservoir. If you twist the cap off and it's like opening a bottle of soda ("psssssh"), there's a leak.
Second place, which I don't think you even have, is the sight glass on the receiver/driver. I thiiiink this was eliminated on the later (2001+) models. Maybe?
Third place, is if you pop the hood and look straight down the front of the car behind the radiator. There's a thick tube that has scrunchy looking casing around it (maybe an inch in diameter). This bugger likes to chafe up against the A/C line that runs almost parallel to it, and eventually rubs a hole into the A/C line.
You can buy r134a with a green dye that reacts to ultraviolet light. I'd put a can in and run it for a few days, then have some fun in the garage at night with a black light. :) If you do find a leak you'd need to take it somewhere with the proper equipment which would vacuum the refrigerant out of the system, store it while the parts are replaced, and then pump it back into your car. Good luck!
