I've got an 01 9-5 SE. Best car I've ever owned, it's still a joy to drive. However, I've had a bumper to bumper extended warranty on it and can't extend it b/c it's an 01. So I've been looking. I've test driven an 06 9-5 and an 06 TL. I have to say I liked both cars. Both cars have very good sport driving manners, I loved how the 9-5 feels in turns and corners. The TL has a solid acceleration from a standing stop that gives you alot of confidence.

The problem I had the 9-5 is that it felt too much like I was driving my 01 9-5 except the interior got beaten up badly by the GM ugly stick. The black plastic around the stick and the cheap look and feel of the solid black dash is a huge step down from the 99 - 05 versions. I'd consider an 05 but I want an in dash CD changer with an MP3 plug. It was sad because it drives tighter than my 01.

The TL interior is beautiful by comparison, I can't complain about how it drives, but I'm just not in love with the car. I'm having a tough time giving up my 01 9-5 with every conceivable option including vented seats and trunk CD changer. However, it doesn't mean I won't.

I feel like I need a third option. I also tried an 06 Volvo S60 R. I liked it too. If you're seeking to be different, you'll see it's got that down pat once you step inside.

I'd advise you test drive the TL if you haven't already. There's alot to like and there's certainly no shame in buying one.
