9-5 wagon starting issues

I have a 2001 130k mileage 9-5 wagon (3.0L V6) owned now for 2 months. Issue is intermittently will not start! Has happened about 6 times now - get in, turn the key, all lights on dash light up etc. but nothing. Do not hear it trying to crank over or even a click. 1st time, called AAA, tow truck turned up, explained would not start, he took the key and presto - it started 1st try! Now I have figured out, leave it a couple of hours and it starts 1st go.
When it fails, I have tried other (spare) key, locking/unlocking etc, shifting in / out of gears, new battery’s for key fobs - everything is useless except walk away, return 2 hours later and drive off. This is not really convenient!! Had battery / alt checked - all good – it’s not lack of electrical power - more like a "lock out" of some sort! The couple of hours appears to enable it to “reset” itself somehow! Does not seem to make any difference if warm or cold! Last night had to leave it at daughters school, get wife to collect us and take home. Went back this morning – started 1st turn of the key. Anyone got any ideas this is driving me nuts?
