Last week another tech posted a Volvo tech quiz on a board and asked us what could be wrong.
Customer had replaced alternator and charged battery himself and when he hooked up battery cables, all hell broke loose with electrical devices going crazy.
That's how it was brought in to the shop.
Tech confirmed battery was hooked up properly but found and fixed the problem in 10 minutes and that's when he posted the quiz for us to answer.
Many of us guessed on loose or bad ground straps but one guy got it right.
It turned out that the battery was completely drained and customer had hooked up battery charger reversed and effectively reversed polarity of battery.
The tech said he had only heard anecdotal stories about it happening but never seen it himself in 30 years of wrenching.
