They changed the key design slightly in 2004, but I don't know if that makes it easier to open the battery door. All I know is I will always and forever bring my Saab one-piece key to the dealership to have the batteries replaced. I brought my '01's key in to have the battery replaced and they BROKE the key. There were swear words and my broken key was forcefully thrown to the floor in the back room, haha. But I got a brand new key out of it! If you break it yourself you're on your own to get a new key. Or live with duct tape holding it together... The $5 they charge is cheap insurance if you ask me. They didn't charge me the day they broke it actually, haha.
