Well, still, at least for the last few years Saab has been in the GM umbrella, and therefore they should take some responsibility for them. And since the badge is a kind of advertisement (after all, is there any car that has no logos on it?), you would think the constant complaint about these flaking off would have been addressed. Are we supposed to blame some poor supplier from which GM buys their badges? I don't think so.
Also, at $ 80-90 to replace at the dealership, that gets a bit costly when you have 2 of them and they last about 2 years each.
Yes, I used UV resistant and non-yellowing gloss coat. You have to do it just right to get the gloss on it. If you just spray a light coat it ends up a bit rough--the trick is to get them in good light where you can see them reflecting then layer on a thick enough coat that the whole badge is covered and is glossy; then it will try that way even if previous coats were a bit rough.
