I could have bought a Lexus . . . but I'm not ready for that.
The thing is, i loved driving the car. Loved it. If I didn't, I would never have kept it as long as I did. It was nice and solid without being so cocoon-like that i was insulated from my environment.
I would have considered a Saab again, but I didn't want a car that was essentially 10 years old. Plus, living in Chicago, particularly the last few years, all wheel drive is a borderline necessity (my village went to a "main roads only" salting policy)--I don't want to imply that my 9-5 wasn't good in the snow, but the A6 is notably more secure in slippery conditions.
My wife wanted something a little farther off the ground for kiddie seat purposes (to save our aging backs). Saab only offers that awful Trailbla . . . er . . . 9-7. They are practically giving those things away, but if i want a chevy, i'll buy a chevy.
Anyhow, I know that the Audi and BMW are likely to have issues much the same as my beloved Saabs, but after a year of ownership, the Audi has been relatively trouble-free. In addition, there is an Audi dealership and a BMW dealership across the street from each other north of the loop . . . i can drop it off in the morning, and be picked up at work and taken to my car. The closest Saab dealer was way north in Morton Grove, which meant two wasted evenings for each service.
