Service Theft Alarm - options?

I've done some research here, but I'm still unsure as to what way I want to go. Can someone tell me if I understand it all correctly? My problem is only the Service Theft Alarm message, I have NEVER gotten the siren going off randomly. The message first appeared last year, now it comes on about once a day.
1) replace batteries (cost about $20) and hope that solves the problem. Some soldering skills required.
2) get a replacement unit and send back core. Waiting on costs
3) bring car to the dealer, have them disable the alarm so it honks the horn in a break in. This will also disable the message on the screen.
4)???
Thanks in advance
