The Infinity is a performance-oriented rear-wheel drive car that happens to have 4 seats. Very tight handling and rather stiff ride (but not harsh) and a sensitive accelerator with lots of sound effects. Nice cabin and ergonomics. A fine car but definitely with emphasis on SPORT.
The 9-5 is a gracefully aging Euro sedan that is comfortable and practical but not nearly as tight handling and responsive as the Infinity. A great road/touring car but the front wheel drive limits performance capability and it has a few quirks. It is also more versatile and capable for carrying loads, etc. Emphasis on TOURING.
If they were priced the same I would buy the newer more modern Infinity just to have some fun for awhile. However, after driving a G35 rental for a week once, I couldn't wait to get back in my 9-5. The G was so tight and hyper - "Wah-Wah-Vroom-Screech!" Ha ha - maybe it was the pilot...
