This could be a good choice........ I live in NJ (and yes they do use salt here) and I kept my 2000 9-5 from new until it had 280K miles on it. I had no unusual problems. In fact the car was very reliable. I attribute this to consistently doing all Saab-recommended preventive maintenance. I didn't follow Saab's 10K mile oil change interval recommendation; I always changed it at 5K mile intervals. I still do this on my 2007 9-5 (bought new in Aug. 2007).
A 2006 9-5 with only 34K miles should be in like-new condition. Carefully, review maintenance records; insist on seeing them. The car may need new brake pads and rotors on the front, although my 2007 9-5 is nowhere near needing pads at 30K miles. Have an indy you know and trust look at the car.
You may want to look at a new 2009 9-5. Financing and pricing make them very attractive.
New and used Saab availability is outstanding, and deals available are great. If the 2006 Saab 9-5 deal you're looking at isn't really great, move on. Also note that the new 2010 9-5 (a totally new car) should be available in 2-4 months.
