The delay is caused by a faulty valve body

I researched that same exact issue for my saab indy last year. We were toying around with an auction car he had purchased. It was a 02 Aero that had the same delay in shifting to drive from park. The fluid was flushed but still had the problem. After doing some research from saabnet and other sources, it turns out there is a problem with early 02 5 speed automatics and their valve bodies. The valve body becomes clogged and causes a drop in fluid pressure. This drop in pressure causes that delay, and occasional hard shift in drive. The only solution for that particular problem was a transmission valve body replacement. Saab even made a kit that would update the 02 valve bodies, but it cost a few hundred dollars. Sorry for bringing the bad news, but this is the information that I gathered last year. Hopefully your issue is something cheaper, like old fluid that needs to be changed. Best of luck!
