For some perspective, I have an 01 LPT 5-spd with 124K and an 04 ARC Auto with 57K. I prefer my earlier car - it feels more solid and luxurious and was not yet de-contented by GM, a process which started about 02-03 and really took hold by 04. The 5 speed is fine - not particularly sporty but great in hilly terrain. It feels as tight and solid as a new car, still has the great leather smell and is noticeably quieter than the 07 Accord I had for a while, or even my 04 Arc.
I love to take my 01 on road trips, often with a couple bikes on the roof rack - it is quiet and gets exceptional fuel economy - 30+ mpg, less with the bikes on top. It has also been exceptionally reliable even though I bought it at 67K and the previous owner (lessee) did minimal maintenance. It has had almost no repairs in 124K - just a DIC, water pump and a sludge check I did at 90K, plus maintenance every 30K.
My point - I wouldnt shy away from a nice 00-01 with say 80-100K, if it were in great shape and had service receipts showing religious maintenance. Probably get it for $3-5K and stuff the rest in the bank -just my .02
