What you have is the correct driver's side mirror, which is used everywhere in the world except the United States, where it fails FMVSS regulations for being too useful.
The 9-5 achieves its stellar side impact safety through a combination of side impact air bags (in the seat), honking big and strong "B" pillars, and having the front seats set inward as much as possible. The upshot of this is when you turn your head to check behind you, you can't see s*** b/c the "B" pillar blocks your view. The "blind spot" mirror, as you call it, fixes that - or rather, fixes that for everyone except US residents other than you. Well, you and me - I bought a wide angle mirror from talliafero. Worth every penny.
