Funny, there's another thread on the bypass valve replacement on the first page.
Actually, not so funny. I've been getting more and more disillusioned with Saab. There are just so many commonly occurring issues: DI, SID, CPS, Bypass valve...
You guys chalk it up to common maintenance items but other makes and models don't seem to have these "maintenance" items.
I just replaced the CPS sensor about two weeks ago.
Anyway, last night, I spent a few hours replacing the valve (thanks to fixmysaab step-by-step procedure). Topped off the coolant, test drove and added a little more coolant once the system burped.
This morning, I checked under the car, no coolant drips. I drove to work and rechecked the reservoir. No drop in the coolant level! However, I still can smell the coolant cooking off of the hot metal parts.
Can this be due to the coolant that leaked from the previous faulty bypass valve? How long before I should check for a secondary leak? Nothing obviously leaking.
What other areas to check? Maybe I have a hose that has a pin hole leak?
