A 2001?? With a 5 speed AT??? Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Wed, 2 Sep 2009 06:42:07 In Reply to: 2001 9-5 SE Trans Fluid Converson, Justin, Tue, 1 Sep 2009 18:00:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
(BTW - that is a 3.0 liter V6...)
9-5s from 1998 to 2001 came with a 4-speed AT. The 2001 OM states that the fluid spec is "Texaco Texamatic Dexron III (mineral oil based)", so anything listed as compatible with DEXRON III should be fine.
The 5-speed which was installed from 2002 on, is specd for: "Saab 3309 mineral oil based)", and other 3309 fluids can be used with it, but definitely NOT DEXRON III...
So, if someone really did put a 5-speed Auto in that car, you need the 3309 type fluid...
The danger you run into by mixing or changing to fluids which are not the same spec run from poor performance, to outright damage to the friction surfaces inside the transmission.
If the Mercon V says it's compatible with Dexron III, then it should work without any problems.
