2000 lpt wagon with 145000 miles.
Just replaced a non-genuine tensioner with another after having had a noise that seemed like a chirp-like squeal from the belt on a pulley.
You see, the noise occurred (or at least was evident) at the end of brief squirt-like accelerations at the instant that I backed off the pedal - down in the 1800+ rev range and lower gear speeds.

Another aspect was it also USED to give a more than reasonable shimmy and shake upon beginning to turn the steering wheel at idle. So in parking situations it was very noticeable.

So, all that HAS IMPROVED and things seem smoother and the noise has REDUCED but not gone away completely. It is still occasionally noticeable. Shimmy at parking speed is better also.

BUT ....given all this I am wondering if
a) Anyone had this or similar before? Any ideas on what it might be?
and my main question is
b) Are the non-Saab tensioners a problem in that way?

By the way, the belt (29000 miles - long version) was in good shape.

Any ideas would be welcomed. Appreciate your reading.
