I think it is the CPV! (longish) TB issue too Posted by jgARC03SW [Email] (#1216) [Profile/Gallery] (more from jgARC03SW) on Wed, 23 Sep 2009 06:35:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Added some more coolant (3 small cupfulls) this morning, then at a red light I saw a little bit of smoke, just a little out the left side of the hood. Got to work okay, only 4 miles total but I usually drive through a really bad town since it is fewer miles.
I take the highway for 2 exits like I always do and the digital temperature guage seemed okay, but then when I went slower after exiting the digital temperature guage (scanguage 2, highly recommended since the saab temperature needle doesn't move until it's too late) fluctuated between 202F and 195F.
When I stopped I opened the hood, smelled what I know now to be burning coolant, level still okay but then after I started taking pictures (blurry, sorry, iPhone camera) another puff of smoke led me to the CPV area that resembles BMillar's pictures (thanks)
Of course I was too stupid to put the Prestone coolant container, now about half empty - this was the third time refilling it this month and 2nd in two days, in the back seat so I might look for a ride home to go get it and then the wife can hopefully bring me back to work tomorrow.
I change my own oil but should I attempt the CPV myself?
PS when I was warming the engine up in my driveway hecking for leaks, I nudged the throttle cam or whatever you'd call it that was accessible on the TB (form left side of car) and the engine stumbled and stalled. For the last couple months if I dont let it really warm up the FIRST time (and first time only) I press the gas pedal it stumbles and if I dont keep giving it gas it might stall. But after that it drives like new. This time I didnt try to open the throttle from the TB since I was worried I would break something and really be stuck.
I bought a broken v6 TB on ebay cheap, I wonder if BBA-reman would fix that up for me....
I will call the indy (15 miles away though) to see if the CPV can be replaced quickly and how much it costs.
