Saved $200 by doing it myself. It is really not that hard to do, all I have done myself was change the oil, change air and cabin filters, and similar stuff - nothing major DIY done yet. See my member gallery for what a leaky one looks like. I bought the non-OEM replacement from eEuroparts.com for about $41 and added a few other small things to get free shipping. Luckily I got it next day via ground shipping since I am not too far from their CT offices.

I have a 2003 v6, 105k miles. It was time. I had a slow coolant leak but I had been refilling it a few times before i noticed a white puff of smoke coming from under the hood. "Oh crap" I said as I was at a red light in a neighborhood I did not want to be stranded in! But I got it home okay since mine was a slow leak. My temperature guage never moved though so perhaps you are closer than I was to catastrophic coolant loss.

I would get a 50-50 gallon of prestone DexCool (assuming you have the orange stuff now like I do) from an auto parts store to keep in the car until you fix it, soon hopefully, so that you wonn't have to worry about doing a full flush and refill later.

Indy wanted $240 installed, lord knows what the dealer would've charged...

Maybe the indy didn't know I had the v6, which supposedly is a lot more room to work with. You will need to buy or borrow vice grip pliers to slide the saab hose clamps off and then back onto the new valve.
