Sudden tire-like noise; NEED ADVICE Posted by TonyJ [Email] (#407) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TonyJ) on Sun, 4 Oct 2009 18:29:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife just drove our 04 Aero wagon (66K now) 650 miles to Ohio, noticing a noise as she approached the destination. My son confirmed that it seems like tire noise, not varying with engine RPM, engine load, braking, or turning. She returned today and I concur. We use Nokian WR G2 year around and they have 25 k miles now, with ~1/4" tread depth, just approaching the outermost wear bars that indicate not too good for snow. I rotate them F--R, so they are uniform and there is no sign of unusual wear patterns. Tire pressures are right-on. The noise comes from the front and sounds like a wheel bearing, but does not vary at all when cornering hard enough to make my wife louder that the noise.
Anyone had this problem with Nokians? Could there be a failing bearing that is not sensitive to lateral G's? Any observations or advice will be appreciated.
