Good and the Bad of the 2002+ wheel bearings Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 3 Questions on front wheel bearing replacement, 2004, TonyJ ![]() ![]() |
I've had both of the front wheel bearings replaced on my 2000 (rears are still original at 258K miles!). Both bearings failed within six months of each other, somewhere around 180K miles, IIRC. These bearings require a hydraulic press to remove them, and one was so bad the entire hub had to be replaced too.
While talking to the mechanic who was doing bearing #2, he said the new 2002+ design is obviously easier to replace, but he admitted they are replacing these bearings much more frequently than those in the earlier press-in design!
